Children & Photo Shoots Don’t Mix
My first photo shoot for TrashDoll (my soon-to-be running preloved/vintage/altered clothing store) was on Sunday. I was freaking out due to the fact that the weather forecast predicted rain for the day, and surely enough, it started bucketing down right after my models arrived.
Deciding to ignore Mother Nature’s attempts to ruin my shoot, I began Mel’s makeup, whilst Stefan and Rowan played Modern Warfare 2… c’mon, what did you expect them to do?! When it finally came time to put the boys’ makeup on, I was pleased with Rowan’s obedience. Stefan however, was sure to put up as much complaint and resistance possible to ensure his manliness wasn’t compromised. He secretly loved it!

I’d previously offered to buy everyone lunch, but much to my surprise, while I was distracted with Stefan’s face, Rowan and Mel got in the kitchen and began making us massive sandwiches! You guys WIN for life!
Eventually the rain subsided and we ventured off to Hampton Park. I was hoping it would be unoccupied due to the shitty weather but I was wrong. The enormous wooden adventure playground was SWARMING with children. They ran around shrieking from end to end in their brightly coloured coats and jumpers, while their parents chatted, chased and scolded. I figured they wouldn’t be too much of a nuisance if we simply shot on sections of the playground that the kids weren’t playing on. I was forgetting one thing.
Children. Run. Fast.
How much energy can something so small have? Surely those little legs meant tiny steps and therefore decreased speed… right? Nope! I’ll be photoshopping children out for the next week.
We began shooting regardless. I did feel like a little child again, having to run all over that crazy structure to find good angles. I especially enjoyed having to tell a little 4(?) year old boy he couldn’t go down the spiral slide because we were shooting on it.
”You’ll probably have to come back in 5 minutes“
He ran back down the section he just climbed, but not before giving me a look that said “NOT FAIR… YOU BITCH!”
Ok, maybe I didn’t enjoy it that much… I’m not completely heartless!
The slide must’ve been popular because 2 more kids came tumbling down within the next 30 seconds. Needless to say we gave up on the slide.
You know how a normal person would see someone with a giant camera pointed at people who were posing, and think:
“Nope, won’t go through there, I’ll ruin the photo” ?
Children don’t do that. They think like this:
“Ohh lady with camera, AND 3 people smiling… OBSTACLES!”
They then proceed to squeeze past, run through, climb over or do whatever it takes to stop a good shot from being taken. *SIGH*
I took the liberty in compiling a list of children who trespassed into my shots:
In spite of these offenders, I did manage to get a few good shots. I won’t put the ones I’m going to use on here, (they’ll eventually be up on my photography page: CLICK HERE!) but you can look at some of our “Behind the Scenes” photos:

Home time?
I just want to thank Mel, Rowan and Stefan for taking the time to do the shoot in the FREEZING weather. Poor Mel had the least warm clothes to model, and the boys wore makeup in public. I think the playing field was even! Hahaha!
The shots should be ready in the next couple weeks, and I am working on getting the store up and running… might be a little while! I’ll keep you posted!
